Very starnge fish discussion at work… care to give your two cents?
We were discussing the merits of genetically creating boneless fish for those people who like fish but dont like the bones or those who would eat fish if the didnt have to worry about bones
Would be very easy to catch
would be a blob
where would the eyes end up?
this cause quite a laugh in the office
I think some folk here are taking your question too seriously!!
It wouldn't be easy to catch, it would be all squishy and slip through a net or your fingers.
As for the eyes, I reckon they would end up on the the top of it as all the rest of the body would hang down into the water.

sounds fishy to me!

There are already boneless fish swimming around. These are a very ancient type of fish. They include the lamprey and the hagfish. These are eaten in Europe and Asia.

LOL, you can tell its Friday !!! I hate to think what the fish would look like but I'm all for a boneless fish as I love fresh fish but hate the bones, enjoy the rest of your Friday x

we do have fish with no bones, look at the squid. However a lot of people don't like to eat squid because of its rather tough and slightly chewy texture, it however has to be this way or it would just collapse in on itself.
Therefore a fish with no bones would probably end up much like squid and we wouldn't want to eat that either

It would be a jellyfish woulnt it

So where does Leslie Ash fit into this?

Not fishy to me! OK they would look weird but i would eat them. I used to love fish until i had not one, but 3 incidents when bones got stuck in my throat and that put me off fish for a long time. I would eat it if it was boneless. I know you can so-called boneless fish fillets and i have tried them if … I managed to find bones so … Off my food automatically. So should you and workmates come up with the perfect boneless fish, please let me know!

try shark! it has cartilage for the back bone and that's it!

You're obviously extremely busy there. Apart from the nswer above naming some boneless fish my guess is – and Im no genetesist – is that yes it's possible , they can do just about anything these days but it would probably take several years to develop then several fish generation to start to breed then then loads more years to breed them in sufficient quantity to be viable enough to 'farm' on a viable basis – basically it probably wont happen in your lifetime or if it does happen sooner rathe rthan later the first 'catch ' is going to be very very expensive – so just get used to spitting out the bones

Skate and Ray are also cartilaginous fish and aren't blobby.
