is it better to have a longer aquarium, or a higher aquarium?
I want a new aquarium, and have saved up enough money to buy a 125 gallon. I was wondering is it better for the 125 to be longer or higher. I will be keeping small african cichlids in their! I have all the other supplies, just need the tank.
for africans you definitely want a longer tank then a higher
they're hiding out in rocks and decorations and need the length to swim

Its better to have a long aquarium. With a long aquarium the fish have more surface area and they have more room to swim. Also with a longer aquarium you can have more fish.

If you intend to keep discus, angels and other taller fishes then I would recommend a taller aquarium.
But any other types, longer aquarium with a larger surface area is a much better choice due to their higher stocking capacity.

A long tank is usually better than a tall one. You want the surface area to be as large as possible so that more oxygen can get into the water.

My opinion is the longer tank. It will let the fish have more room to swim.
I have been wanting cichlids for a long time. They are great fish.

For a size like this… Longer is better.. because this is a 125gals the high will even fit for a full gown Angles run all over!
Nice Tank.. and Have fun!

Usually it's better to have a longer and wider aquarium, but it really depends on the species of fish. A shallow aquarium isn't suitable for a large Angel but a fast moving fish will appreciate the space and the larger surface area gives better oxygenation. Most fish swim in different areas either top middle or bottom of tank and tend to be longer than they are tall so it makes sense to give them more room!
I'd buy the longest you can afford and have room for! Fish keeping becomes addictive and it's easier to keep a large tank stable than it is a small one.
