Everything About Tropical Fish Tanks and Saltwater Aquariums
I just got a betta fish today and have an important question?

I got a betta fish today and he came in a cup. The cup has blue water in it. Is it ok to add the blue water to my aquarium?

I would not. That blue water is medicated because of how stressful being kept in a cup is for a betta. Being kept in such a small volume of water without a filter or a heater makes them prone to sickness.

I would dump half that water out and replace it with half of your aquarium water after you have allowed the cup to acclimate to the tanks temperature. Then net the betta out and add him to the new tank.

it is fine. It is just food coloring in the water anyway. It is supposed to make the fish look more appealing to buy.

don't ever add water from any dealers aquariums into your own tank. It spreads disease very easily. You may not have had it happen to you yet, but dumping any foreign water into your aquarium is playing with fire, and eventually something bad will be introduced.

just make sure the temperature is equalized and net him out of the cup, then put him in your tank that way.

yes but if there is bacteria in the water you really don't want to add and change the chemical balance in your tank

Never add the dealers water if you can help it. The reason being that it may carry pathogens for disease that could attack and kill other fish in the tank. Just use a net and place the betta into the tank.

No, never pour water from a pet store into your tank, even if it isn't blue. I could have tons of diseases you don't want. Good choice on picking a betta. They are fun and have tons more personality than some fish.

Oh no, they sucked you into betta keeping as well! :O jkjk lol. You can add the blue water(stress coat) to your aquarium but i'd highly suggest you don't since it'll contaminate your water. I'd suggest pouring some water out of the cup, leaving your betta in there, and adding some tank water to the cup to get him adjusted to the tank water. Make sure the water in your aquarium has been dechlorinated before adding your fish :)

My own experience when I first got MY male betta. He's in a bowl right now till I give away these other fish in the tank. Never pair up your betta with mollies or tetras :/

You could, but it would be safer not to!
