How to look after a tropical fish tank ONE DAY=DURATION OF OPEN TIME?
First off, this question is only going to be open for one day, as I’m going to go to the fish store tomorrow. How can you make sure fish will stay alive in a tropical fish tank. I’ve left the water for 1 wk. Got a filter and heater. All I need is the fish, but I want the fish to stay alive, any help? Thanks to everyone who helps =0]
Just leaving the water for one week does NOT make it safe for fish. You need to trigger the nitrogen cycle. If you go out tomorrow and buy fish THEN the cycle will start, the water will slowly turn toxic and your new fish will start to get sick.

Fishkeeping teaches patience. Those fish will still be in the stores in a few weeks time. A rushed tank is a sickly tank!

Well, it’s fine; be sure to feed it every morning and night and maybe you can even get a light for it if the tank is dark!
The water should be about 70 – 80 Degrees Fahrenheit.
And try not to drop your fish on the floor while moving it!!!!
I did that today when switching over my fish to another tank….
she’s fine, but I think she was scared!

okay do u have a thermometer to make sure the heater is working correctly? also water conditioner is a must! so buy some of it tomorrow when ur buying ur fish, it works really fast. just put it in ur water while the fish r floating in their bag getting the temperature the same. also add ur fish slowly. tomorrow only buy like 2 fish. then the next month buy two more. don’t add any algae eating fish untill six months. so don’t get any shrimp, plecos, or snails. get an ammonia test kit to make sure ur fish don’t dye from ammonia poisoning. and make sure to put in the water conditioner every time u add new water!

if u want to make the water a tad more safe, add cycle. this is a handy product found at most pet stores, that will give some extra bateria in the tank, so that it speeds up the cycling process. is around $8-$15. and be sure to keep up with water changes latter after the tank has been sat up for 3-4 weeks. with fish in it.
