What supplies do I need for a 10 gallon fish tank?
I’m a beginner so I just want some small little fish like guppies or teras or something like that and I was wondering what all I need to put in the tank. I know I need
1. the tank with a hood
2. a filter
3. gravel
4. some plants and decorations
4. water conditioner
I was wondering if I needed a heater really or if it’s just an unnecessary thing. Do tetras and guppies and fish like that really need a hot tank?
Hiya,
I would deffinatly get a Heater – you wouldn’t want them to die.
You will need to cycle your aquarium before getting Fish – see http://www.tropicalfishcentre.co.uk/Fishlesscycle.htm
Remember to plan how you want your aquarium to look, I prefer natural aquariums, I’m sure your fish would too! You could have a curved corner of plants with plant substrate, with rocks separating it from a nice sandy substrate. A little pile of rocks, some moss growing on some bogwood.
It would looks stunning!

A heater is necessary. Guppies and tetras need their water to be about 76 degrees. I wouldn’t recommend tetras to a novice fish owner. They easily die without the right water parameters. Make sure you read up on the nitrogen cycle and cycle your tank before you add fish.

Yes you should get a heater. One suitable for a ten gallon tank. Guppies and tetras are warm water fish, they should have water atleast 76 degrees. Here is a stocking idea for you if you’d like. One or two dwarf gouramis (as the center piece), a school of 5 neon or serpea tetras (as the schooling fish), and something as a bottom dweller like a dwarf cory cat or some ghost shrimp, you could also add a snail. Good luck!!!

You’ve already got everything you need. I think you’re ready to go!
Heater, you need a heater since you have tropical fish. Meaning you’re water temperature should be around 78-80F. Unless you’re room temperature is set to like 25-28C, then you might consider a heater.
I’d suggest 6 neon tetras for your tank. Make sure you don’t overstock your tank.

You will need a filter for fish like Guppies and Tetras. I would steer clear of the Tetras because they are fragile and easily die if your water parameters aren’t good enough.
Google the nitrogen cycle and cycle your tank (either with or without fish) and you’re ready to go.
