I really want a salt water fish tank! But.. my mom..?
Now, I really want a salt water fish tank! How can I convince her to get one? Would she let me get it if I agreed to pay for all the supplies and keep the tank in my room? Pls help!
Modern saltwater tanks are much easier and cheaper to maintain than before. The upfront cost is can be heavy for a low maintenance setup though. Do some research on deep sand bed filtration, algae filters, and live rock. I know of many people that no longer provide any filtration other than biological. They consistently have unreadable levels of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Again, can be very expensive up front however.
Please ask at your local pet store for fish keeping groups. They are your best source of information. They will gladly help supply you with live sand, corals, and even captive bred clownfish, usually for free.
EDIT: They will also be able to provide you many tips on how to set up a salt water aquarium on the cheap. More than could ever be listed in 300 words. Having experienced guidance you can call on when needed should help in persuading your mother.
EDIT: Get a notebook and start taking a lot of notes as well. Don't bring it up for at least a week (month would be better). Just take your time researching and asking questions. Nothing will convince your mother that you are prepared for this more than being prepared for this.

My mom does not allow me to have a fish tank either, but i first bought a 2.5 acrylic tank and she likes it. Then i bought a 29 gallons glass tank, i told her that friend gave it to me, although she does not believe me, she still has to obey me cuz its already in my bedroom.

Saltwater tank exp.
she has a good reason, saltwater tanks require a lot more maintenance and supplies than freshwater.
freshwater tanks and fish can be very beautiful too, maybe your mom would let you get a freshwater tank and some tetras, which would be fairly easy to take care of.

salt water tanks are expensive . you must likely will not be able to convince her. if you do you wont be able to get any fish unless you have a lot of money because the materialsyou need for a salt water tank will be about $500. the fish are at least 40 a peice to. but the best fish are $80 each.

there are several things to consider. who pays the bills? are you working? a saltwater tank is no cheap endeavor. If you are not working, and you are at that age, start by employment and work from there.
