i bought a log for my 20gal fish tank from feeders supply!??? it stains my water to a brownish color?
the stain is very annoying i would like to know how to get rid of it and what i can do to get the log to stop
It’s called tannins and it is natural process of wood in water.
To speed it up,pull the wood out and boil it for 10 minutes…. drain the water and boil again.
The log will stop…. when there’s no more tannins to leach.
Some people like the "blackwater" look… and it’s what most Amazon Basin fish and Southeast Asian jungle fish are used to.It doesn’t hurt anything and will dissipate through your water changes (although carbon will remove it,if you keep changing it every few days).

Natural and normal, it’s tannin leaching from the wood.
You can reduce it by taking out the wood and boiling it for a while, that will remove a lot of the freely available tannins, and that mean less going into the water.
You can put some activated carbon in the filter, that will absorb some of the tannins.
You can change more water.
You can wait. The amount of tannin will reduce over time. It will allways be leaking some, but after a few months it will be much less.
