What store has healthier betta fish-Petco or Petsmart?
I am planning on buying a betta fish, and am undecided on which store has a healthier selection of betta fish, Petco or Petsmart? Please help ASAP!
Honestly, the majority of the time I go and look at the bettas at either store, half of them are dead, a quarter are inactive and sick looking, and a very small quarter are active enough to be taken home.
I bought my betta at Petco and he’s happy and healthy, but he was one of those that were in the active quarter of bettas; very darty, flared, etc. I saw one at Petco the other day that must’ve been dead for a while, since its water was bright yellow. It was nasty, to say the least.

What temperature is good for Betta Fish water?
I just got a betta fish ( I named it Swimmie). I have it’s home and I have the water conditionor. I used bottled water that was already room temperature and then I added about 1 cup of cold water from my Brita because I ran out of bottle water. Its been about 12 hours and I haven’t put swimmie in it’s home yet because the water is cold to my touch. Do they like cold or warm water?
They are a warm water fish and need temps 78-82.

Just got two female betta fish, but one continues to chase the other and nip at her?
I got two female betta fish two days ago and placed them together. Shortly after I placed them in the tank, one of the bettas started to chase the other around and nip at her fins. She doesn’t fight back and just flees when the other attempts to nip at her. I saw some articles on the internet about female bettas establishing a pecking order, so is this what is happening? Will it stop, or will I need to separate them?
I’ve done some research on this subject too and found that in order for females to form a pecking order you need at least 3 females. And they need lots of room (3-4 in a 10g) and many hiding places in plants and caves. If you only have 2 the dominant one will pick on the other one possible to the point of death. The more females you have the more any aggression is spread out among them and one isn’t being soley picked on. Also it is suggested that when you put females together whether it be 3 or 6 or whatever number you are keeping, add them all at the same time so that 1 fish doesn’t get overly territorial about the tank. They all have a fair shot at staking claim to spots in the tank. If you have room I would get another female. Then take the 2 you have out of the tank and rearrange plants & decor. Then add all 3 at the same time. Watch them closely for a day or 2 and there will be some slight fighting but after a few days they will sort it out and calm down. If you don’t have room to add another female I would seperate them. Otherwise in a short time you will end up with a sick, injured or dead fish. Good luck!!

What is a good Invertebrate to have in an aquarium?
I am going to have the following species in my future aquarium: Assorted Swordtail, Pearl Guorami, and Starry Night Pleco. Also if possible include some supplies I may need or a link to a website with that info. Thanks.
You can put freshwater shrimp or clams in there with them. There’s quite a few varieties of colorful freshwater shrimp. This site sells them http://www.azgardens.com/c-19-the-shrimp-factory.aspx but you can get a good idea of what’s available out there.
