There are a large amount of fishes you can choose from when you are planning in having a salt water aquarium. There are lots of colorful and exceptional varieties of gorgeous saltwater fish to choose from in making a sea aquarium. That's why this guide will be your basic tips in choosing and caring for saltwater fish and invertebrates.

First, you really should know the difference between saltwater and freshwater as there are fishes which will die will put in saltwater and vice versa. You are able to say that a fish is a freshwater fish when you can found them in streams, streams, ponds and lakes. Saltwater fishes are fishes that are picked up from seas and seas. Remember that saltwater fishes are not quickly acclimatised to big changes in water chemistry or temperature because their natural environment is sort of stable. Also, saltwater fishes have larger risks connected with handling and shipping because many of them are captured in natural habitats.

You should also know what equipment you need to need in making your saltwater aquarium. Modern equipment is intended to be functional in either salt or clean water but it is very important that you will select the quality and trustworthiness of supplies. You should know the equipments that are necessary as it is tough to risk the lost of a twenty or thirty dollar fish. Contrary to some views, undergravel filters aren't necessary in saltwater aquariums.

If you're wondering about whether saltwater fishes are tough to keep then you could be wrong. Caring for your fish is the same even if they are saltwater or freshwater fishes. You only need the right environment and equipments to set up in your aquariums. Just make absolutely certain that you know the type of fish you are purchasing before buying it. You need to also know the environment and food that these fishes want before purchasing it because they can become puny or haggard or will refuse to eat.

If you are considering what size of tank is required then the answer's that almost any size of aquarium may be employed. But , generally, bigger tanks are easier to manage because you can keep the water chemically balanced and you'll have a lot more options when it comes to fish compatibility. But , if you have your small budget then it's better to line up a medium-sized tank with good equipment than to try a bigger tank with inadequate equipments within. The commonest saltwater sizes are in the range of 30 to 55 gallon.

Finally is to select your fishes that you are going to put in your tanks. Not all fishes will get along one another. You should follow these simple rules when finding for your fishes. You should not choose a fish that will fit into another fish’s mouth as it will often ends up there. The less related any 2 fish are, the more probable they are going to get along. And lastly, the less two fish seem like each other, the likelier they're going to get along.

Setting up a saltwater aquarium isn't that tough especially when you're truly inquisitive about making it. Saltwater aquariums will start out as a easy tank of water in which nautical life will be placed with the goal of creating the final marine environment. You could have your tiny additional care and patience in the beginning nonetheless it will simply go a long way in the future since your tank will be stabilizing already. You can then make your long way towards making a good and problem-free aquarium for many years to come.

Before working on your tank, you first ought to know where the number 1 place to put your aquarium is. This place should be away from windows, heat vents, outside doors, and air conditioning units since rapid changes in water temperatures are highly stressed for all fish and particularly for saltwater fishes. Remember that once your tank is set up it'll weight roughly 10lbs per gallon that it holds. So, be absolutely certain that your floor will support this quantity of weight. You should place your aquarium out of direct sunlight and in a room where you'll be certain to spend a good quantity of time. Also, check for electric outlets since most salt tanks will require access to least 4 add ons.

Now you are prepared to set up your tank. First, wash out your tank to dump any dust or waste inside. You check your tank stand and check if it's level and adjust appropriately. If you don't have access to a carpenter’s level, place the tank on the stand and fill with one to two inches of water. You must make sure that your aquarium is balance because an unbalanced aquarium can be intensely unsafe. Now, fill your tank approximately 1/3 full. Check for leaks, look for water beading up on the lower edge or running down the sides of stand. If there are any leaks, empty it and return it to the store for a replacement.

You can then start setting up the equipment that you'll put in your tanks. If you are using an under gravel filter: Rinse and place the bottom plates into the tank, attaching all obligatory tubes, airline, gang valves, check valves and air pump. The check valve should be placed approx 3-4 inches from your air pump, with the arrow on the valve pointing away from the pump. Don't plug in your pump at this time. If you want to add a new substrate and decorations then place them into the tanks. If you're not using an under gravel filter then set up your filter according to manufacturer’s directions that come with the filter. If you need bubbles then you can hook up the air stone or action ornament, airline tubing, gang valve, check valve, and air pump. After all the set up is complete then it is time to glue your power filter and protein skimmer now, following the manufacturer’s directions.

Now you can fill the tank and put salt. Just make absolutely sure that there is no dripping. Add the appropriate of water conditioner or additive to your tank. You need to make sure that your gravity is around 1.020 using your hydrometer. It could take up to 24 hours for the salinity level to stabilise. Now, you can place your heater into your tank. The best place for you to put it will depend upon the kind of heater that you have. After the saltwater system is now set up and running then you need to wait until the temperature of your tank remained stable at the appropriate temperature and this will generally be at least 24-48 hours.

In the tank at the moment: 1 bronze catfish, 1 pepper cat fish, 1 pangasius Catfish, 1 pleco, 1 chinese sucker, 6 neon, 6 Red Wagtail Platties, 9 baby guppies(+/-1 month)

Yes, I don’t have a light, and yes the wire for the pump is ugly. I will be getting a light and a backdrop to hide the wire. I am looking for advice on what other fish to get. And if you feel I need to do anything to keep the tank in good working order. The baby guppies have not been attacked by the other fish, which was a great surprise for me, thought they were all going to be eaten, I have only lost 1 baby. The tank is +/- 160 litres. How many fish is too much. At the moment I know I got too little, but don’t want to eventually over crowd.

Any advice is appreciated.

This is my Tropical Fish Tank and the inmates here are quite friendly but the Electric Yellow Chichlids do create problems some times by nipping on the tails, so may be they will not be lasting in this tank for long. The plants in there are all artifical ones and the rock setting at one corner is made especially for my Parrot fish and chichlids to make them busy within there.
