How do you grow live plants in a tropical fish tank ?
I have a tropical fish tank(10 gallon) and i want to grow live plants but i don’t know how?
or how many plants to put in my 10 gallon tank.
it depends on the plants really. some need alot of lighting like swords and some need just normal aquarium lighting. BUT some need special substrate to grow in. id just stick with some java moss on a piece of drift wood and then some planted java ferns. and some anubias nana petite because they only get a few inchs high. just beware of snails who might hitch a ride on one of the plants the plants you buy. Their eggs and larvae can come on the new plants so check under leaves. also algea might grow on the plants so a otocinculus dwarf catfish or red cherry shrimp will gladly clean it off and not harm your plants.

Marine to tropical fish tank conversion?
I was thinking of converting one of my marine fish tanks to a tropical one. What would i need to change, and what could i use for it’s new purpose? I appreciate that the salt water would need to be replaced by normal water, but what about coral sand, rocks etc?
Blimey Rick, very thorough answer, thanks a lot. One last thought…what about the lighting? I spent quite a bit on marine lights – will these still be suitable for tropical, or wil i need to replace them? Thanks again…
You will have to change everything due salt saturation
