needlenose gars are really interesting. don't get cichlids they need a bigger tank and plus they dont look unique. get a african brown knifefish or a african leaf fish. some exotic carnivorous fish would be a vampire tetra, pink tail characin, freshwater barracuda, rainbow crayfish, shovelnose catfish ,or a banded leporinus. These are aggressive fish and should not be all put in the same tank!
References :
No matter what you get, it's not really recommended to use feeder fish (assuming you're using goldfish or rosie red minnows). They should only be used as a rare treat, if at all. Aside from the possibility of introducing disease, they're very inadequate from a nutrition standpoint. Now if you're using the 10 gallon to breed some mollies or something, and growing the fry out in something larger to use as feeders, that is a much better option.

As for what eats them and can live in a 55 gallon, there are a ton of options. Smaller piranha species, smaller pike cichlids, moderate sized South/Central American cichlids, SA leaffish, needlefish, Ctenopoma, Exodon paradoxus...not to mention all of the stuff that can fit in there as juveniles/young individuals, but then outgrow it. I'm sure there's plenty I'm forgetting, too. It's late, after all.
