Aquarium Fish Tank Driftwood?
My Aunt had some driftwood in her garage which she probably found in her yard, or by a lake. Since I have been wanting to grow aquatic plants in my fish tank for quite some time, and hear that they grow well on driftwood, would it be ok for me to use it in my fish tank? How could I clean it properly? Or do I need to buy some from a pet-store?
Hiya there, depends on where she got it, ask her. If she bought it at a pet store, it should be okay, but if she just found it laying around i suggest you should pour boiling water over it outside or in your bath, doesn't matter, and then let it sun dry for at least a day, this should kill the bacteria and it should work fine for years to come, hope it works

It is a little risky. If there is anything growing on it do not put it in. If it is clean then boil it to remove anything that could be harmful.

I have found drift wood at a lake and put it in my 90 gal and it did just fine. You will want to soak it in a bucket or bath tub for a month so it will get leached of anything that is inside of it.
It may float, and it it does you can weigh it down by soaking it in water for 1.5 months so it gets water logged (make shure it is fully coverd in water), or glue rocks to the bottom with aquarium sealent

Be careful about adding wood to your tank, it can change your water parameters and lower your ph to as low as 6 or 6.5, you need to know what type of wood it is, if you do use your aunts wood be sure to boil it for an hour or so before doing anything thing ele with it
