The stone is called …
The stone is called Feather stone. I purchased it at a local landscape supply compant for 40 cents a pound. It’s very porous and has alot of air pockets. Most of the time the stones will actually float in the water. To get it to sink I put it on the grill for a half hour then submerged in ice cold water. This expels the air in the stone and allows it to sink. You can carve/cut the stone very easily using house hold tools such as drills, chisels, dremel tool, etc….
